Riding in the bush is a passion to be shared with both humans and critters.

Sheba, my 1½ year old Rhodesian ridgeback from Sweden, is always ready to accompany us on our rides!

As Nigeriens are very social, we often stop to talk to people.

And while humans stop to talk to humans, Sheba takes the opportunity to make new canine friendships.

The boy & his Azawakh girl

I am always amazed by Sheba’s social skills. Although most Azawakhs (especially the females) are skeptical at first, our communicative ridgeback does not give in until her proposition of friendship has been accepted.

And despite the Azawakh’s instinctive reservedness, there is one thing that unites Sheba with all local canines:

…the love for racing!!

And who will not hold their horses to watch their canine guardian do lap after lap in the bush fields with a newfound friend??

Life quality comes in many versions and there are few things I enjoy more than watching animals or people perform according to their heart’s desire!

Those long-legged girls sure can run. Soon you’ll be back and playing with them.
Hi Esther, Sheba is looking quite sleek and fit! I like the way she’s kicking up the dust when she runs.
Khyra would love to zoom zoom zoom with them!
we need to return to africa and our solar cake and tea.
Sheba and her antics are a great source of entertainment for you! …and for us, too. Your commentary makes it come alive. I can’t wait till you’re back in Niger again with Sheba and all the others.
What lovely photos and story about Sheba and her social skills. She’s learnt from her human. God-speed your return to Niger and your precious loved ones. Blessings Jo
