One of the things I love about solar cooking is the variety of meals that can be prepared just reflecting the heat of the sun. Although there are few solar cooking recipe books, everything that can be cooked at a low temperature in the oven is perfect for solar cooking.

I recently tried making solar cooking meatballs, which was very simple. I mixed minced meat with a bit of flour, an egg and spices (in this case; salt, pepper and frozen parsley).

Liking variation and knowing that sun cooks through easily on a sunny day, I made my meatballs really big.

I set out my casserole in the morning,

…and by noon, the meatballs were well cooked, surrounded by a broth that was quickly turned into a nice-tasting sauce.

I served the meatballs with solar cooked rice and fresh tomatoes. Simple and nice!

I love your solar cooker. We used one on campus in Washington State. Works great.
I don’t recall ever hearing about solar cookers but the meatballs look great.
I enjoy your posts about solar cooking. Are many of the people in the villages there using solar cookers?
