Tabita and Priscilla are leaving for Holland this weekend, so I thought this skywatch post would go to them!

Remember Tabita’s birthday ride in the bush?

I saved the best for last.

Renate and Priscilla turned about halfways, while Tabita, Peter and I continued forward. The dogs stayed with us, not wanting to miss out on the perfect outing!

We headed over to the airfield stretch – a large expanse of land peacefully situated at the outskirts of town.

Here lies my favourite rainy season lake; a perfect place to water the dogs and horses – not to mention the endless photo oppotrunities.

Sheba who loves water was quick to get her paws wet,

201008-p1230483

…while Kimi, who was discovering large amounts of water for the first time, was a little more weary.

201008-p1230488

Eventually, his mother’s love for water got the better of him,

201008-p1230489

…and he too decided to get his paws wet and have some fun.

As for Tabita, her horse was in equine paradise.

Tabita & Ebony, the Gentle Giant

Surrounded by so much green,

201008-_mg_4415

…Ebony could easily be left unattended,

201008-p12305251

…while the rest of us enjoyed the beautiful setting of the West African sun.

All that bathing filled my ridgeback with energy,

201008-p1230502

…and allthough the sun was setting (and hence diminuishing my chances of action shots), I managed to get her on camera as she was flying past me, hoping to initiate Kimi in a good RR run.

Wanting Tabita to experience something new, the two of us rode Ebony into the water – which Sheba thought was an enourmous amount of fun. So did Tabita!

Although we would have wanted to leave before sunset (the official “mousquito hour”), the beauty kept us right where we were,

201008-p1230567

…which so much left to discover.

201008-p1230593

The sunsets here in Africa are always very sudden,

201008-p1230619

201008-p1230625

…and often dramatic.

My favourite shot of the evening came as we were well on our way home again. The lights were fading, enhancing the beauty of an ancient acacia tree. I could not have asked for more!
