Although I only discovered birdwatching a couple of years ago, it feels like I’ve been doing it for a long time.

It’s such a natural part of numerous visits to the Zinder bush.

The Grey Heron is one of the many species we encounter.

It’s a little rare compared to other species, but recently, Sheba, Ronja and I met four of them.

They did not mind the dogs,

…who were busy exploring the muddy waters…

…and finding the perfect places for backrubs at such.

At first I thought there was only one,

…but then three others popped up from the high grass.

The Grey Heron [Ardea cinerea] is a large bird and can be up to 100 cm tall.

It likes to look for food in shallow water-

…and will eat fish, frogs and insects.

This is not my first encounter with this beautiful graceful bird, and hopefully not the last one either! I hope you enjoyed it too!
