Posted in June 7th, 2011
by Esther Garvi in Birdwatch Niger, Experiencing Africa, West African Wildlife

I have grown to love our encounters in the bush! For more birds around [...]

Palm Tree Bed Production

Posted in February 14th, 2011
by Esther Garvi in Experiencing Africa, Healthy living, Niger cool places, Nigerien culture & traditions, Things you want to know about Niger

In Niger!

Posted in May 18th, 2010
by Esther Garvi in Experiencing Africa, Ishtar travels

We are approaching home! We arrived in Niamey (the capital of Niger) last night, and are spending the day dealing with visas (for those flying out of Nigeria later this month) and car papers. If all things go well, we could be heading for Zinder tomorrow. Nothing would make me happier!!! Greetings from Niamey!

We are now in Burkina Faso! After two days in Mali, we crossed the border yesterday and are now in Ouagadougou (known as Ouaga), where we have applied for visas. We are about a day’s drive from Niamey, the capital of Niger – where we will need to apply for visas to Nigeria (for those [...]

Whenever friends comes to visit in Niger, a Skywatch Experience on the Mt Zinder Hilltop north of town is on the menu. When Karin was there, we were lucky to enjoy a deep blue afternoon sky. Perfect for a picnic! Watching the sun go down is a peaceful moment. In Niger, the sunsets are quick [...]

Posted in September 5th, 2008
by Esther Garvi in Aid politics, Eden Foundation, Favourite posts, Sustainable development

Cash handouts – the solution for West Africa or another way of keeping the aid circus running? IRIN (Integrated Regional Information Networks), which is part of the UN but supposedly editorially independent, recently published an article about aid and cash handouts, entitled “West Africa: Do high food prices warrant a cash response?” Experts say many [...]
